Rafting on the Iskar river

In Bulgaria there are two popular places for rafting: Kresna Gorge of the Struma River, which is near Blagoevgrad and the gorge of the Iskar River, which is close to Sofia.

If you have not yet tried rafting, then rafting in the Iskar Gorge, near Sofia, is a good opportunity to experience the thrill of this adventure, pleasant and safe.

The rapids of the river are suitable for everyone. The program combines adrenaline moments with a relaxing trip and it is a good test for those who want in the future to take part in a more complicated rafting adventure like rafting on the Struma River in the areа of Kresna.

The rafting on the Iskar includes also practical exercises in swimming and boating in streaming water. In certain parts of the route, everyone from the crew can stand in the place of the captain.

The rafting on the Iskar River starts from Bov Railway Station or village Tserovo and finishes near Lakathnik Rocks /Lakatnishki Skali/ Park.

Village Tserovo is located about 50 km on the north of Sofia in the direction of town of Svoge. The start can be reached quickly both by car and by train.

In the area of the Iskar Gorge there are two rafting routes.

The short route has a length of 7 km and
it is more relaxing. Passes for 1-2 hours depending on the level and speed of the river.

The long route is 14 km
and includes adrenaline rapids. The time required for the adventure is about 4 hours.

In that time included preliminary briefing and putting on rafting equipment.

Map of the rafting

The most suitable season for rafting is the spring and the early summer when the river is most deep and fast. In the hot summer days when the river is not rough, the rafting route can be covered by tourists also on inflatable kayaks.

In September and October the rafting is also pleasant because the surrounding mountain ridges are in golden autumn colors.

The individual equipment we provide to all participants includes 2.5/3 mm thick neoprene wetsuit, neoprene half-boots, a life jacket and a helmet. In the cold days we provide 5mm thick neoprene wetsuit and gloves. The personal clothing and belongings that each participant has to carry with are swimsuit and towel.
